Buena Park Resident Leadership Academy (RLA)

Monthly Virtual Meetings:

1st Thursdays of the month 

Concern:

In the Franklin Street Community there are designated student pickup areas at: Franklin St. and Burnham, Franklin St. and Western Ave., Franklin St. and Kingman Ave., and Franklin St. and Fullerton Ave. that do not have any crosswalks marked to indicate to drivers that students constantly cross the area to load and be dropped off by the school bus. Kingman Ave. is missing a stop sign and there is no signage denoting the intersections as bus stops/ pickups. Vehicles often ignore traffic laws by speeding and yielding at stop signs.  

As a result, the Resident Leadership Academy selected the area as their Community Improvement Project. 

Solution:

High visibility crosswalks marked on the street and addition of a Stop sign on Kingman Ave. will decrease children's safety risks during pickups/ drop offs.

Current Status:

The members of the Resident Leadership Academy have met with city engineers from Buena Park who have approved the project. Working in collaboration with the city of Buena Park a work order has been created and completed to implement the changes recommended by the resident leaders.
