Placentia Resident Leadership Academy

 Concern:

  1. Safe routes to schools for Melrose Elementary and Valadez Jr. High
  2. Community events and support activities at Whitten Center focused on mental health, nutrition education and physical activity

Solution:

  1. Working in partnership with Cal Walks, City of Placentia, Lot 318 and Resident Leadership academy, conduct a Safe Routes walk around around the schools and nieghborhood to present to the city officials to help provide changes regarding safe, walkable and bikeable communities for the low income communities
  2. Resident Leadership Acadmey will be planning and coordinating yearly calendar of activities to promote mental health edudcation, nutritional education and physical activitiy free for the community of the Whitten center and La Jolla nieghborhood

Current Status:

  1. The members of the Resident Leadership Academy conducted a walk audit with residents, created a presentation to bring forth to the city representatives.
  2. Residents currently meet weekly to plan and find education opportunities to bring to the community which include partner organiztaions to provide mental health services free for the community and planning weekly ZUMBA classes at the Whitten Center.
