Community Concern:
The crosswalk in front of Woodcrest Elementary is difficult to see and is in need of a paint job. The streets and sidewalks are cracked and broken, which has decreased the walk-ability of the neighborhood. The crosswalk is positioned in a way where the sun reflects on driver's eyes. This has created an unsafe environment for students and pedestrians walking across the crosswalk on an everyday basis.
Community Solution:
The repainting of the crosswalk will help with visibility of pedestrians walking across the crosswalk or biking. The addition of a BlinkerBeacon Flashing LED Beacon or Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon would create greater awareness and security for pedestrians walking on the crosswalk. Fixing the street would also allow drivers to focus on the street and not on driving around bumps and cracks on the street. Water would also properly drain and prevent flooding on rainy days, allowing pedestrians to walk throughout their community.
Community Concern 2 and Solution:
The crosswalk on Valencia and Lemon St. in front of Maple Elementary has lost half of its paint and is no longer recognizable. Repainting the crosswalk would make drivers aware about the boundaries of the lines.
The traffic light at the intersection is in need of a protected right turn lane in order to prevent ongoing accidents. Traffic calming on Valencia could also help prevent future accidents by slowing cars down.
Students consistently walk across this crosswalk to get to school in its unsafe conditions.
